New Delhi, March 2 (IANS) India’s most experienced Davis Cup campaigners Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi Tuesday withdrew from the crucial World Group first round tie against defending champions Serbia owing to injuries.
Bhupathi confirmed the news on the social networking site Twitter.
“No Davis Cup for the Indian Express this tie. Couple injuries (minor hopefully).. Good luck @sdevvarman and @rohanbopanna.. There in spirit!!,” Bhupathi posted.
India play Serbia from March 4-6 at Novi Sad.
India secured its place in the elite 16 for the second straight year by defeating Brazil 3-2 at home in the World Group play-offs. It’s the only time India has come back from 0-2 down to win a Davis Cup tie.
