Pacer Roach guarantees series win for Windies
February 12th, 2010 - 1:16 pm ICT by ANISydney, Feb.12 (ANI): Outspoken West Indian speedster Kemar Roach has guaranteed a victory not only in tonight’s third one-dayer but also in the best-of-five series.
The 21-year-old pacer made the declaration as Australia prepare to claim their seventh successive ODI series with a weakened side after resting Shane Watson and Brad Haddin for the SCG clash.
‘We are going to win. I’m confident in the guys, we have a good captain, good management team, good players, and I know we are going to pull through and win this series, I’m very confident of that,’ Roach told the Herald.
Roach has had a lean start to the series with just two scalps at 42.50. In comparison, Australia’s strike bowler Doug Bollinger has six wickets at 7.66.
Roach is nonplussed with his efforts so far.
‘I’m feeling OK, I could do a lot better but I’m not putting myself under any pressure,’ Roach said.
‘If getting out Ponting is what I’m supposed to do, that is what I’m going to do. I just came to play cricket. I’m representing a lot of people in the Caribbean, I’m trying to make them proud.’
Windies skipper Chris Gayle was more reserved in his assessment.
‘They definitely execute better than us, they are more disciplined than us as well,’ Gayle said of the world’s No.1 one-day side.
But Gayle was also sticking to his prediction of a series victory, albeit with less enthusiasm after having predicted before the first match that his side would prevail 4-1.
‘I’m still confident, I guess I’m going to keep getting that question over and over,’ he said.
‘We have to keep reminding each other how good we are and that we have the capability to get the job done. There are no two ways about it - we have to get our act together and try and step up to the plate,’ he added. (ANI)
