Melbourne, Nov 4 (ANI): Former opener Michael Slater has said the Australian selectors failure to take tough decisions has put the team’s Ashes campaign in serious jeopardy.

He said the selectors were responsible for some monumental blunders, including the retention of out-of-form batsman Mike Hussey.

Slater also further said the selectors’ have become obsessed with sticking with a losing combination when changes should have been made.

“We’re losing, but the selectors have sat on their hands and done nothing to improve the situation. It’s beyond a joke. And, how can you justify sticking with a losing side?

“Hussey and (Marcus) North are the obvious ones, and, there have been plenty of opportunities to blood new talent in that middle-order,” FOX Sports quoted Slater, as saying.

Slater, now a respected television commentator, said that Hussey must go for the first Ashes Test in Brisbane.

“He’s out of form, and the succession plan should have begun way before now, but there is no way Michael can play the first Test. Right now, Callum Ferguson is the obvious choice to replace him and has found form and a change has to be made for the Ashes opener,” he said. (ANI)
