Sydney, Mar. 22 (ANI): Former Australian middle order batsman Dean Jones is of the view that Victorian all-rounder Cameron White’s days in the national squad are numbered, given his current poor form with the bat.

In an article for the Sydney Morning Herald, Jones said: “He (White) knows he is on borrowed time with the selectors. It is an ugly experience knowing the selectors are about to knife you - as I have experienced many times.”

He said that the selectors will be looking for reasons why the Australians lost to Pakistan last Saturday and White will be high on their list.

“If the selectors omit White for the quarter-final against India on Thursday, this may bring his international career to an abrupt halt. He has had a poor World Cup and I feel he needs to get home and reassess what he wants to do with his cricket,” Jones says.

“His whole career needs to be looked at by his coaches and some honest thinking will be required if he wants to go to another level. Since White has stopped bowling, extra pressure has been put on his batting, which has suffered of late,” he adds.

White knows his international figures are not brilliant and he needs to improve them and soon.

“What we do know is that the spinners on the subcontinent have got him around their little fingers as he struggles to find a way to score….First, White has to watch the ball from the spinners’ fingers and commit to what length they are bowling. Then he has to decide whether to use his feet or play them off the back foot. I learnt this from the great Lindsay Hassett, who Don Bradman said was the best player of spin he saw,” says Jones.

He concludes by saying: “What White needs after this tournament is heavy remedial work on technique.” (ANI)
