Oz punters in betting frenzy with arrival of Woods for Australian Masters

Sydney, Nov 12 (ANI): The interest of punters in golf, a sport to which they usually pay comparatively less attention, has increased with the arrival of Tiger Woods’ for the Australian Masters.
Woods teed off at Kingston Heath in Melbourne this morning, and finished his first round at six-under par. But seeing just six holes from the world’s best golfer was enough to convince one punter of his credentials.
The person put 50,000 dollars on Woods to win the tournament at odds of 2.30 dollars, said Matt Jenkins of TAB Sportsbet’s.
TAB Sportsbet has also taken bets of 10,000 and 5000 dollars, at lower odds, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.
“Since Tiger has hit the course, the money has been rolling through the door. Golf is relatively small in size of turnover compared to rugby league, soccer or AFL,” Jenkins said.
“However Tiger has already triggered punters’ interests and many have an opinion on how he will go at Kingston Heath,” he said.
Earlier this week, a regular golf punter laid a massive 100,000 dollars wager on Woods with Sportingbet Australia at 2.60 dollars.
It was the biggest bet put on a golfer before an Australian tournament.
“If you could bet on how Tiger would have his eggs for breakfast, punters would jump on that too,” said well-known bookie Gerard Daffy. (ANI)
