Oz ODI woes on Indian sub-continent grossly exaggerated: Fox Sports
March 24th, 2011 - 12:46 pm ICT by ANIMelbourne, Mar 24(ANI): The myth of Australia’s woes on the Indian sub-continent is grossly exaggerated, especially when it comes to their one-day record, according to Fox Sports.
“The Aussies have lost only seven ODIs in India since 2003. Australia have also won seven of their nine World Cup matches against India and haven’t lost to them in a World Cup since 1987,” Fox Sports said in an article titled ‘MythBusting’.
The analysis comes ahead of today’s India-Australia World Cup quarterfinal encounter at Ahmedabad’s Sardar Patel Stadium.
The article also stressed that India’s fast bowlers lack firepower, as apart from Zaheer Khan, India have relied almost exclusively on spin to pick up wickets.
“Zaheer Khan is one of the leading fast bowlers in the world and he has delivered at this World Cup with 15 wickets at 14.86. But apart from the left-armer, quicks Munaf Patel, Ashish Nehra and Sreesanth have taken 10 wickets in eight matches between them, which has put plenty of pressure on India’s spin bowlers,” it said.
It further highlighted that while India’s overall record at home is impressive, their numbers at the Sardar Patel Stadium don’t for make pretty reading.
“They have won just five of 12 ODIs at the ground and have lost their past four. In fact, they haven’t won there since they beat West Indies in November 2002. Australia have won three of their four matches at the ground, including their 91-run win over Zimbabwe in the group stage,” the article said. (ANI)
