Sydney, Apr.15 (ANI): Australian cricketer Steve Smith will miss the remainder of the Indian Premiere League (IPL) this season as he has to fix an ankle injury.

Smith, 21, was turning out for the Kochi Tuskers Kerala.

‘Steve has had long-standing minor left ankle pain during the Australian summer. Now is considered an opportune time to have surgery on the ankle which will take place next week so he can adequately prepare for upcoming Australian cricket,’ Sydney Morning Herald quoted team physiotherapist, Alex Kountouris as saying.

The leg spinner and middle-order batsman has played in three Ashes Tests during the summer, as well as the Twenty20 and one-day series against England and the World Cup.

He was also part of the Australian team that won the one-day series against Bangladesh in Dhaka on Wednesday. (ANI)
