Organisers ready to pass Games comission test: Randhir
December 13th, 2009 - 9:54 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Dec 13 (IANS) The Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (CGOC) is well-prepared to pass the assessment test of Coordination Commission (CoCom), says CGOC vice-chairman Randhir Singh.
The seven-member CoCom, led by Austin Sealy, will be reviewing the progress of work for the 2010 Commonwealth Games beginning Monday.
This is the first major review by Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) after CGF chief Michael Fennell in October warned OC that “time would be your enemy” in preparation for the Games.
Randhir insists a lot of progress has been made on the operational matters of the Games, which was pointed out as the worrying factor by Fennell.
CoCom members have already visited some of the venues and the Games Village site. They will meet the Organising Committee and other stakeholders, including representatives of the union and state governments and various agencies responsible for infrastructure creation.
“We are ready with our presentation and there should be no problems,” Randhir told IANS.
“The Organising Committee will be giving them presentation on the functional areas of the operational part of Games. The chairmen of various sub-committees will be giving the details of the work done so far.”
The CoCom has given a list of specific areas on which the commission needs to be briefed.
“There has been a lot of progress on the operational part in the last couple of months and we are confident that the CoCom will be satisfied with the pace at which the work is progressing,” Randhir said.
“We are not taking this exercise as a test for us, but it will help us in our preparation. Our ultimate aim is to host a successful Games.”
On the infrastructure front, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and other agencies overseeing the work will give detailed presentation. The deadlines for the completion of work at some of the venues were revised.
Fennell will be in the capital over the weekend and will be briefed by the CoCom.
The CoCom will submit its report to the CGF executive board which will set up a monitoring panel to review the monthly progress of work.
