Nov.22, (THAINDIAN NEWS) University of Oregon cheerleader Katelynn Johnson got injured during Saturday’s match when the Oregon Ducks clashed with the Arizona Wildcats, as she was hit by a bottle that was thrown by someone in the stands. The incident took place near the southwest end of the Arizona Stadium where the match was being held. Johnson had to be taken to the nearest hospital after she collapsed in the field. However, in the match the Ducks registered a victory against the Wildcats with a 44-41 win.
Johnson who is a senior in the University, was hit hard on her head by a full water bottle due to which she was taken off the field as the game was coming to an end. However, initially there was no confirmed report about her condition and it was also unclear whether the cheerleader had actually lost consciousness. Reports later emerged that Johnson received proper treatment and was doing well.
UO quarterback Jeremiah Masoli said after the match that such kind of behavior by the crowd was highly unexpected and uncalled for. Although, many people are claiming that a Arizona fan must have targeted the cheerleader, it is being presumed that it was just a stray incident and nobody purposely targeted Johnson. However, LaMichael James, running back of the Oregon team has emphasized that throughout the match Arizona fans were throwing things on the field, which could have injured many others.
The incident took place at the end of a nail biting match when the Oregon team unexpectedly emerged as a winner, which left the Arizona fans present at the stadium highly disappointed.

Best wishes for Ms. Johnson. Hope she has a speedy recovery! Please don’t let these morons sway your opinions of Arizona fans. They were a small minority of fans who watched a great great football game. Best of luck to Oregon! You’re my second favorite Pac 10 team

The University of Arizona needs to step up their security and prevent this kind of incident from happening. Revoking season tickets/banning from games sounds about right.

It is not a football match. We call it a football game. What happened to this girl was terrible, but instead of focusing on that, I could not get past your terrible writing.

I think it’s irresponsible to say it was a minority of fans that behaved badly at that game! It’s one thing to boo and heckle the players during the game, it’s completely different to heckle fans as they are entering the stadium! Very poor sportsmanship all around by Wildcat fanatics from what I could see! There were things being thrown onto the field throughout the game, and it seemed like security did nothing to stem the tide. I think the best step the Pac-10 could take in this situation is to issue the school a fine!

Apparently some of the fans were also throwing empty bottles of Jack Daniels down there too. Wow. Im not sure if I am going to think any differently about the fans of one of the biggest party schools in the nation. But i will tell you what: I am DEFINITELY thinking less of the security at the stadium now. Seriously, who lets people bring Jack Daniels bottles into the stadium?
