Oram may retire from test cricket to revive ODI, T20 career
October 12th, 2009 - 1:21 pm ICT by ANIWellington, Oct. 12 (ANI): New Zealand allrounder Jacob Oram has reportedly decided to retire from the Test cricket in order to prolong his one-day and Twenty20 cricket career.
Oram, who wants remain injury free to perform well in the shorter versions of the game, may make an announcement about his retirement this week, Stuff.co.nz reports.
Following his disappointing return from the Champions Trophy with yet another injury, Oram was devastated and he decided to take matters into his own hands, sources said
New Zealand Players’ Association boss Heath Mills did not deny Oram was on the verge of retirement.
“Yes, he is weighing up things at the moment, but I can’t comment any further,” Mills said.
“He’ll make a decision on his future soon and whether that is playing all three forms, or one or two, we’ll have to wait and see,” he added.
Mills added if Oram retired he would still be welcome at the Indian Premier League despite IPL boss Lalit Modi publicly denouncing players who cut back their international commitments but continue to play in the Twenty20 league.
“Everyone in world cricket knows the NOC [no objection certificate] document cannot work because it is a restraint of trade,” Mills said. (ANI)
