Onions to replace injured Woakes
October 19th, 2011 - 3:47 pm ICT by IANSMohali, Oct 19 (IANS) England bowler Chris Woakes will miss the rest of the One-day International (ODI) series against India because of a thigh strain and will be replaced by Graham Onions.
Woakes, who picked up the injury during England’s practice session Sunday, did not play in his side’s first two defeats in the five-match series. The third ODI takes place here Thursday.
“He (Woakes) suffered the injury during practice on Sunday,” an England and Wales Cricket Board statement said.
“Woakes will now undertake a rehabilitation period that rules him out of the remaining three One-day Internationals.
“Durham’s Onions has been called up as a replacement.”
Onions will join the England squad ahead of the fourth ODI in Mumbai on Sunday.
