One-touch play is our strength: Iniesta
June 23rd, 2010 - 9:56 pm ICT by IANSPotchefstroom, South Africa, June 23 (DPA) Spain midfielder Andres Iniesta stressed Wednesday his confidence in the beautiful one-touch playing style that led Spain to Euro 2008 success.
“One-touch play is what suits us, it’s our strength. It’s what makes us effective,” Iniesta said.
Some have doubted the style during the World Cup, where Spain lost 1-0 against Switzerland in their opener and then only beat Honduras 2-0 despite having plenty of good chances.
“We will try to stop Chile (expressing their) virtues, but the important thing is that we do what we have to do,” Iniesta stressed.
Spain face Chile in a decisive match Friday. Neither team has so far secured a place in the Round of 16, although the Chileans are well on their way with two wins in their two Group H games.
“Chile will try to play their match. But beyond what they do, it’s about what we do,” Iniesta said.
The creative Barcelona midfielder, who has recovered from an injury he sustained in Spain’s opener, praised Chile. But he believes his team remain favourites.
“If we do things well, we have many chances of playing in the next round,” he said. “We still depend on ourselves, and if we win we shall be through to the next round.”
