One member created disharmony in team, says Yousuf
February 10th, 2010 - 6:48 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Karachi, Feb 10 (IANS) Mohammad Yousuf has added a new twist to the drama revolving Pakistan’s poor showing in Australia by claiming that “one player” created disharmony within the team during the tour.
The Pakistan captain, who is facing the axe for his team’s 0-3 whitewash in Tests and 0-5 defeat in the ODI series against Australia, said the particular player was disruptive and was one of the reasons why the tourists fared miserably during the tour.
Yousuf, however, did not reveal the name of the player during a show on Geo Super TV channel late Tuesday night.
“There is no doubt there is only one player in the team who is disturbing team unity and other players. I spoke to coach Intikhab Alam and other management about it and they agreed with me,” Yousuf said. “I will only disclose his name to the chairman of the board, Ijaz Butt.”
“Intikhab Alam, Abdur Raqeeb (manager) and (Shahid) Afridi know who the player is and we discussed it several times,” he said.
“Intikhab told me to be wary of him when we were in New Zealand but I wanted to see for myself. I saw in Australia how his body language was and we dropped him from the Tests. We decided in Australia during a meeting that we had to do something about him.”
Yousuf also spoke his mind about Butt’s statement during the tour of Australia that the PCB is planning to appoint a new captain after the series.
“I don’t know when the statement was made but suddenly everyone in the team changed. All of a sudden, six or seven players started to see themselves as captain. In New Zealand tour, the players were cooperating with me, but as the tour went on I felt they weren’t because they knew I wouldn’t be the captain in the next series.”
Yousuf is facing an inquiry committee that was appointed by the PCB after the team’s poor performance against Australia. He has been summoned by the six-man probe panel for a hearing in Lahore over the weekend.
