Sep 25, (THAINDIAN NEWS) On Friday night, in midst of United Football League-record crowd of 24,000 that cheered loud at Rosenblatt Stadium, the Omaha Nighthawks went for a last minute one point victory over the Hartford Colonials who dominated the game for most of the night. The Omaha Nighthawks posted their first lead at the United Football league with a 27-26 win over the Hartford Colonials. The five-team United Football League entered its second season this year.
The win was not a cakewalk for the Omaha Nighthawks who trailed behind the Hartford Colonials till the end of the third quarter. With less than six minutes remaining of the third quarter, the Omaha Nighthawks were seen chasing 13 points lead posted by the opponents who came forward with some good display of offense. The score board read 23-10 in the favor of the Hartford Colonials. Luck that seemed in favor of the Hartford Colonials for most of the night changed her side to that of the Omaha Nighthawks with just six seconds remaining of the game. While Jeff Garcia’s 12-yard pass to Robert Ferguson provided Omaha Nighthawks with a tie, Jeff Wolfert’s extra-point kick right on time sealed the victory in its favor.
After such a surprise last minute win, Omaha Nighthawks coach Jeff Jagodzinski said, “That’s the way to start a franchise”. He said that the players of the team are all full with energy and that it is always “fun” to win games like the one they played on Friday night. He mentioned that the win makes the effort of the players worth. However, the team is now looking forward to win the impending games.
