London, May 22 (THAINDIAN NEWS) An Olympic torchbearer has sold her Olympic torch on the Internet for £153,000. Sarah Milner Simonds from Burnham-on-Sea, listed the torch and her torchbearer’s tracksuit for sale on Sunday.

Sarah sold the cast aluminum alloy torch on the Internet auction site eBay. She wants to use the money for the development of People’s Plot, which is a struggling community allotment in London. This gardening project enables people to grow their own fruits and vegetable, which they later eat. The funds will be used to run seminars and help the community.

For the price of £215, all 8,000 torchbearers can buy the torch that will use for their leg of the relay. The cost of manufacturing each gas-powered torch is £495. The event’s sponsors pay for the difference. When the torch was listed on eBay then it received 163 bids. The auction winner paid £153,100 for the torch. 7 other higher bids were also made, but they were later withdrawn.

She claims that she had received hate mail from other eBay users criticizing her for selling the torch. Other 30 torches have been auctioned on eBay. Three of them made amounts that exceed £100,000. Torches from the London 1948 and the Berlin 1936 Olympic games, have sold for up to £6,750.
