New Delhi, Jan 14 (IANS) Athen’s Games silver medallist Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and former world No.1 Anjali Bhagwat’s dreams to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics ended Saturday despite winning medals in the team events in the ongoing Asian Shooting Championships in Doha.

Both Rathore, in the men’s double trap, and Anjali, shooting with a borrowed gun in the women’s 10 metre air rifle event, failed to qualify for the final round as they finished ninth in the last qualifying tournament for the 2012 London Games.

According to information received here, the trio of Rathore (135), Mohammed Asab (135) and Ronjan Sodhi (134) won the team bronze. Sodhi, who had already booked his Olympic quota, finished a disappointing 14th while Asab was ninth.

The focus was on Rathore, who came into the tournament after equalling the world record of 148/150 at the Asian Shotgun Championship in November. But he struggled to adjust in the windy conditions.

Rathore shot 48/50 in the first series that saw him in tied lead but in the second series he managed only 41. He needed to shoot 47 in the third round to qualify for the final but fell short by one point to finish with a total of 135/150.

The women’s air rifle team, Anjali, Ayonika Paul and Mampi Das won the silver medal with a total score of 1185 out of 1200. China won the gold with 1187 while the bronze went to Iran with 1183 points.

Anjali and Ayonika came close to qualifying for the final round but lost in a tie-shoot to finish ninth and 10th, respectively. The two Indians were among the seven who were tied at 396 out of 400 after the qualifying round. Mampi shot 395 to finish 12th.

In junior women’s sports pistol event, Surabhi Pathak (565), Aanchal Rana (548) and Oshin Tawani (533) won the team bronze. The gold and silver medals were won by China and Thailand, respectively. Surabhi finished seventh in the final round with a score of 565 in the qualifying and 147.7 in the final.
