Olympic athletics: Russia’s Lashmanova wins walk in record time
August 12th, 2012 - 2:47 am ICT by IANSLondon, Aug 12 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Russia’s Elena Lashmanova won Olympic gold in the women’s 20km race walk Saturday, beating the world record of her fellow Russian Vera Sokolova in the process.
Lashmanova finished in 1 hour 25 minutes 2 seconds, ahead of another Russian from the same region of Mordovia, Olga Kaniskina, who took silver after finishing seven seconds behind her.
The previous world record, set by Sokolova at the Russian Championships last year, was 1.25.08.
Qieyang Shenjie from China took bronze in 1.25.16.
