London, Nov 11 (ANI): French starlet Gabriel Obertan has begged for the chance to become ace striker Cristiano Ronaldo’s long-term successor at Manchester United.
Obertan (20) has impressed as a sub against CSKA Moscow, Blackburn and Chelsea this season.
Portuguese winger Nani has failed to prove he can fill the gap left by 80 million pound Ronaldo’s move to Real Madrid.
The former Bordeaux player said: “Why not aim to be a regular in the team? I might need a year to achieve that but I hope I can do it. At first, I just want to be part of the squad and get a few minutes in each game.”
“Then, if I keep working hard and show what I can do, I have ambition. I didn’t expect this move to happen so early in my career. But I feel ready for it,” The Sun quoted Obertan, as saying.
Obertan arrived at United with a long-term back injury, which meant he did not feature in his first four months at the club. But he is now itching to get going and, as a keen student of the English game back in his homeland, he believes he is perfectly suited to be a success over here.
“After four months of just waiting and resting, I have been really looking forward to starting my career as a Manchester United player. I wanted to feel part of the squad, the group and be involved in the games. So I’m feeling really good right now,” he said.
“I’ve always liked English football. When I was in France I would watch it every weekend. And, with my qualities, this is the best league in Europe for me. I’m quite fast and like to be in one-on-one with defenders,” he added.
Obertan revealed he first became aware of United’s interest in him four years ago but was delighted when they finally made their move. (ANI)
