OAS calls for reinstatement of baseball in Olympics
July 16th, 2009 - 2:17 pm ICT by IANSWashington, July 16 (DPA) The Organisation of American States adopted a resolution calling on the International Olympic Committee to reinstate baseball and softball in time for the 2016 Summer Games.
The resolution was introduced by the US, which is the birthplace of the sports played widely throughout North and Central America and in parts of South America, the Caribbean and East Asia.
The IOC booted the sport in a 2005 vote. Baseball was played in last year’s Summer Games in Beijing but will not be included in the 2012 London Olympics.
