New delhi, July 18 (IANS) European football clubs’ interest in India is increasing day by day with the latest being Spanish giants Real Madrid. The day may not be far when top stars from Real Madrid like Raul, Fabio Cannavaro and Ruud Van Nistelrooy come down to India as the club’s president Ramon Calderon has written to Sports Minister M.S. Gill, showing the club’s interest in playing in India.

It all started with a light discussion between Gill and Calderon during the Wimbledon final.

The sports minister now wants to seize the opportunity and has informed his cabinet colleagues and the All India Football Federation (AIFF) chief Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi to decide how they make the best out of Real’s interest.

“Further to our conversation, we would be delighted that we could establish any kind of relationship between Real Madrid CF and india, through its government, and in particularly, through the ministry of youth affairs and sports,” Ramos wrote in his letter.

“In that regard, I am at your disposal to discuss any proposal you might wish to make,” he added.

“As you can imagine, our club must plan all their activities with time enough, therefore I would be grateful that any suggestion you may have, can be made in advance in order to be responded properly. I look forward to hearing from you soon,” the Real president concluded.

In his reply, Gill has thanked Ramos for showing interest to 153rd ranked India and said that he would get back soon.

“I thank you for your prompt letter. We are, at the moment, busy with political matters in our parliament. Our football association president is a senior minister who recently had a minor medical problem. I will talk to him and others in the near future and will get back to you,” Gill wrote.

“I certainly wish to see real Madrid in india,” the sports minister added.

If Real Madrid comes calling, it will be the fifth European club after Manchester United, Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Chelsea to make their presence felt in India.
