Now, NA sports committee lambastes PCB for taking ‘illegal’ decisions
November 27th, 2009 - 2:06 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Lahore, Nov.27 (ANI): Troubles for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) refuses to die down, as now the sub-committee of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Sports has lambasted it for taking important decisions without consulting the NA committee.
The sub-committee, while terming the appointment of Chief Operating Officer (COO) Wasim Bari as ‘illegal, has summoned the board’s chief financial adviser Mohammad Naeem to appear before it.
According to sources the committee is also likely to ask the Auditor General of Pakistan to conduct a special audit of the PCB, similar to what it did recently for the period between 2003 to 2008.
The sub-committee also raised questions regarding under which clause of the constitution the PCB chairman Ijaz Butt was giving orders for making various expenditures, The Dawn reports.
It also criticised Butt for appointing Naeem, his close relative, as the chief financial officer, saying he was appointed on a temporary basis then why he has stayed on the post for years.
“An ad hoc post could only last for three or four months,” the committee observed.
The sub-committee also observed that even the appointment of Saleem Altaf as the COO was illegal because the post was not advertised.
It directed the PCB to prepare its constitution latest by January 31, 2010. (ANI)
