Melbourne, Jan 30, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Serbian tennis ace Novak Djokovic cruised to victory during the finals of the Australian Open men’s singles on Sunday at a packed stadium in Melbourne by beating opponent Andy Murray 6-4, 6-2, 6-3. The Serbian ace dominated his Scot opponent in all the segments of the game to emerge triumphant and clinch his second Australian Open title in one of most spectacular fashions. The large number of spectators gathered at the Rod Laver Arena gave a thundering applause at every move of the 23-year-old Serb as he went on to seal the victory.
Novak Djokovic was able to make a comeback from two break serves during the third set to take full control of the game and dominate his Scot opponent while the Serbian ace went to register the championship in straight sets. It took the Serbian player two hours and 37 minutes to defeat Andy Murray at Sunday’s Australian Open finals and materialize his dream of winning the championship for the second time. While Novak Djokovic battled it out from the two breaks of serve in the third set to win the prestigious tournament, for Britain its search for a champion in the men’s grand slam since Fred Perry won the U.S. Open way back in the year 1936, continues with Andy Murray’s loss.
During the showdown between Novak Djokovic and his Scot opponent at the Rod Laver Arena, the roof of the stadium was kept shut owing to the mounting temperatures in Melbourne although it was opened after the match commenced and the weather had cooled to a large extent.
