March 30th, 2010 - 11:23 pm ICT by ANIHyderabad, March 30 (ANI): Tennis sensation Sania Mirza on Tuesday said that she would not be making any political statement by marrying Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik.
Sania and Shoaib are scheduled to marry next month.
Addressing the media outside her house in Hyderabad, Sania said: “We are not getting married for making political statement. We are getting married, that is the only thing in my mind. It is as simple just like you people get married.”
“I’m very happy, my family is very happy with the occasion. The reception will be held on April 15. The venue has not been decided as yet. It is still weeks away, but I’m happy,” she added.
Sania further said that she will continue playing for India, and will continue to be an Indian citizen despite her decision to settle in Dubai.
“I’m going to keep playing. I will play for India, and inshallah he will play for Pakistan,” Sania said.
“We will settle in Dubai, it is a safe place to live in and it will be the middle base for both of us,” she added.
Sania also informed that she has known Shoaib for the past six to seven years.
Replying to query regarding supporting the cricket teams between India and Pakistan, “I will support India but I will definitely support my husband. But I will definitely support India.”
Earlier reports had said that Sania and Shoaib were in a relationship for the last six months, which had led to disruption in the Hyderabad girl’s earlier engagement to childhood friend Sohrab Mirza. (ANI)
