No replacement for Afridi as of now: Pak team manager
July 18th, 2010 - 1:16 pm ICT by ANILondon, July 18 (ANI): Pakistan team manager Yawar Saeed has said that the team management, including the newly appointed captain Salman Butt, has decided not to seek any replacement for Shahid Afridi, who announced his retirement from Test cricket following the 150-run defeat against Australia at Lord’s.
Afridi, who had announced that the second Test at Headingly, would be his last, is uncertain to play that match, as he struggling with a side strain.
However, the team management is yet to demand a replacement.
“The Management team including myself, assistant team manager Shafqat Rana, coach Waqar Younis and captain Salman Butt decided against requesting a replacement for Shahid Afridi at this stage of the tour” Saeed told Paki Passion.net
“We will be travelling to Leeds on Sunday (today) as a group of 16 available players for the second test match. We will of course assess the situation regularly and look at the fitness of the available players before making any decisions on suitable replacements,” he added.
Speculation are rife that the PCB has requested former captain Mohammed Yousuf to come out of retirement and join the squad for the second Test against the Kangaroos.
However, given Saeed’s comments it seem that if Yousuf is to be recalled, it certainly will not be against Australia. (ANI)
