No changes likely in Pune Warriors team for Kochi Tuskers IPL match
April 13th, 2011 - 11:16 am ICT by ANIMumbai, Apr 13 (ANI): After the success against Kings XI Punjab, the debutant team Pune Warriors is likely to keep the winning combination intact in the match against Kochi Tuskers of Kerala to be played at Pune.
Geoff Marsh, the coach and Murli Karthik, spinner of Pune Warriors disclosed this while briefing the media at Mumbai.
On being asked if the final eleven would remain same for the team from their first match, Geoff Marsh, that the discussion on final eleven is still to take place, but the combination is likely to remain same.
The two IPL debutants - Pune Warriors and Kochi Tuskers Kerala - will clash against each other in Pune on Wednesday.
“We have trained today, and will sit down with the trainer tomorrow morning and we will have discussion over the final eleven…and definitely,” said Marsh.
Marsh said all players are fit for the match against Pune Warriors.
He was all praise for the team’s efforts in the win against Kings XI, and said he expects a similar turn in Wednesday’s match.
Team member and left-arm spinner Murali Kartik described the match between the two debutants as a battle of old warhorses.
“It’s a new franchise but the thing is most of the players have been playing the IPL, they have got the likes of Brendon McCullum, Laxman, Mahela Jayawardene, Muralitharan …all those guys have been part of the franchise just that it’s a new name and auction forces you to go to different teams but if you look at it, superb players in the opposition ranks and that’s how it goes. It’s a battle of newbies but it’s a battle of old warhorses,” said Karthik.
While appreciating his South African teammate Alfonso Thomas as an able player, Karthik termed him as an advantage to the team enabling the side to go into the match with the option of nine bowlers.
“Possibly nine people can bowl and we bat till eleven. So Alfonso (Thomas) comes at number eleven and has three first class centuries (to his credit). So it’s just an advantage we have got, so many options,” said Karthik.
