Nine Woman GMs for National Chess

Chennai, Oct 28 (IANS) Nine Woman Grandmasters, including World junior girls champion Sowmya Swaminathan from Pune, will be taking part in the Velammal 38th National women’s premier chess championship that will get underway here Saturday.

Former National champion and International Master Tania Sachdev (Elo Rating 2419) of Delhi is the top seed, while talented Orissa girl WGM Padmini Rout (2356) is the second seed.

There are two other former national champions in Aarthie Ramaswamy and Bhagyashree Thipsay.

Experienced International Arbiter RC Chatterjee from Bengal will be Chief Arbiter and he will be assisted by International Arbiters RR Vasudevan (Canara Bank) and D Soundaramoorthy, FIDE Arbiters RK Balagunasekaran and K Thirukkalathy.

A cash prize fund of Rs.250,000 is being offered with the winner receiving Rs.75,000. The tournament will he held under Swiss System for 11 rounds and there will be live webcast of all the games on www.tamilchess.com.
