San Francisco, Oct 19 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Nike Women’s Marathon 2009 took place on the 18th of October, Sunday. Over 20,000 women took part in the race that was held on the streets of San Francisco.
This is the sixth annual installment of the Women’s Marathon. It serves as Nike’s campaign for raising funds for the treatment of those afflicted with leukemia. The objective of the Marathon was to raise the sum of fourteen million dollars for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. The courses for the marathon had remained the same as it has been since 2005. The track started at San Francisco’s Union Square and continued past the Transamerica building, the San Francisco Bay and the Aquatic Park, and came to an end just north of the Great Highway.
The Marathon took place at two levels: the half marathon and the full marathon. In the full marathon, the one to take away the trophy was Caitlin Smith, residing in Oakland, California. The winner for the half marathon was Carrie Dimoff, who came to take part in the race from Portland, Ore.
Caitlin Smith finished the race in two hours, fifty eight minutes and fifty two seconds. Carrie Dimoff ran to victory at one hour, twenty five minutes and twenty six seconds.
Some of the participants felt that running with girls was better than running in a coed race. According to them, there is also a lot of healthy competition. All the participants said that running among San Francisco’s wonderful scenic beauty is a great experience. At the end of the race, Tiffany and Co were seen handing out little gift boxes to the participants containing a silver chain inscribed with ‘run like a girl.’

Why doesn’t Nike have official results on its own website? Why doesn’t it have real-time tracking during the race? Hello, welcome to the 21st century. I had several friends in the race, wanted to see how they were doing. I had to call and e-mail them after it was over to find out. Nike, please join the computer age.

After running the entire course of the Nike women’s half marathon, the finish line was about 100 meters away and I was so happy to finally finish until this woman volunteer came out of no where asking me where my bib was, I said I don’t where a bid because it bothers me so because I wasn’t wearing my bib she started to push me to the side saying I can not finish the race.
I couldn’t believe this was happening, the finish line is in my grasp and some woman is pushing me to the side. When she realized I wasn’t going to stop she then tried to trip me from behind, which really pissed me off. I told her “lady I’m wearing my timing chip which proves I paid for this race” but she still would not let up. I was pushed to the side and was not allowed to finish the race.
Being a guy I couldn’t care less about the Tiffany necklace, or the men in tuxedos at the end. My goal is to race and beat my time. Instead some f****** bitch who’s job was to stop anyone who didn’t have a bid on with just seconds from the finish was and is absolutely the most ridiculous thing Nike or any marathon can do. I have been racing my whole life from 5k to ultras and I have never witnessed anything like this before. I will never run a Nike event again or wear anything that advertises them.

Nike does have tracking. Your friend could have signed up to have text sent to you during the race during key moments.

To “Gotta Run” - Sorry you had a bad experience, but if you’ve been racing your whole life, you should know that it is a rule that you wear a bib! And sadly there are a lot of cheaters out there. One person could register, then cheat by having 1 person wear the bib, and the other the chip. Wear your bib like you’re supposed to and you won’t have any problems!

I have advice for you gotta run, you’re a dude, stop running in women’s races and shit like this won’t happen. Why doesn’t Nike do a Men’s marathon. I’d totally enter that. There wouldn’t be a bunch of fat bitches who “just wanna finish”

I loved the Nike Women’s Marathon in San Fran! The course was one of the most beautiful and difficult courses. I’ve been trying to find my results on the Nike+ website but can’t find it. Also, my husband signed up for the text messages but it didn’t work. Nike refunded the $3 quick and easly. I did see a girl almost get hit by an ambulance because she was wearing headphones. All in all I’ll be back to conquer those hills! :)

who cares if someone wants to run the course without paying, if your not going to break any records or win the race then so what.
And there is no rule that you have to wear the bib. the only reason why you would wear your bib is to find your pictures after the race.

it has nothing to do with me being a “dude”, I’m a coach and I was pacing my female runners.
and I agree with you that Nike should have a male only race, although I would never entire a Nike event again. That way all those fat bitches who were walking and drinking there latte can stand and watch real athletes.
