Nice to go into wedding after a good performance: Aswhin

Harbhajan Singh New Delhi, Nov 9 (IANS) Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who made a dream Test debut with nine wickets against West Indies, said he was happy to go into his wedding after a successful start to his Test career.

Ashwin took six wickets in the West Indies second innings when they were bowled out for 180.

Ashwin said he was surprised to get so much success on the slow and low Kotla wicket.

“I expected to get a few wickets but not so many. It is a very happy feeling to go into my wedding with such a performance, the only thing was the variation in bounce, if you were slower through the air, you would be slower off the pitch. So I bowled a bit quicker in the second innings. It helped that Ojha was bowling so many maidens from the other end. The batsmen did not have the fear of being caught at bat-pad,” he said after the match.

The Chennai-based is all set to marry childhood sweetheart Preethi Narayanan Sunday. Ashwin and Preethi were engaged earlier this year.

Ashwin’s father Ravichandran, while reluctant to divulge details, said the marriage, scheduled a day ahead of the second India-West Indies cricket Test in Kolkata, would be restricted to the two families and close friends.

The 25-year old, who made ODI and T20 debuts last year, has gained in status in the past couple of seasons during which he also played a key role in the Chennai Super Kings winning back-to-back titles in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Ashwin replaced Harbhajan Singh in the Indian Test squad.
