Hyderabad, Sep 15 (IANS) New Zealand A romped to a massive 129-run victory over Australia A in the opening match of the triangular cricket tournament here Monday.Chasing a target of 236, Australia A folded up for 106 with Mark Gillespie (3-37) and Jeetan Patel (4-16) plotting their downfall.
Opting to bat, New Zealand made a slow start losing opener Aaron Redmond early and could score only 34 in the first 10 overs. Peter Fulton (75) and Mark Guptill (33) added 104 runs to set up the base for a modest score.
But after Fulton fell to Doug Bollinger, New Zealand collapsed and lost quick wickets. Left-arm spinner Xavier Doherty was the pick of the Australian bowlers, claiming four for 34.
Comeback man Shaun Tait, making his appearance in eight months, was erratic and went wicketless.
New Zealand medium pacer Gillespie removed Phillip Hughes and David Hussey in his first two overs to leave Austrlia reeling at 18 for two.
Luke Ronchi played some attacking shots but Gillespie trapped him leg before. Australia could never recover from the early blows and surrendered in 26.1 overs
