New regulations will favour smaller F1 teams: Sutil

New Delhi, Jan 27 (IANS) Force India driver Adrian Sutil said Thursday that with new regulations favouring smaller teams the Vijay Mallya-owned team will do well in the forthcoming Formula One season.Sutil was retained by Force India Wednesday night along British rookie driver Paul di Resta.

“We are now a genuinely strong midfield team, but we have got plans to be even better: I have seen the plans for this year and it looks positive. The car will be quite strong, the team work well together and with the new regulations favouring smaller teams we should be in a good position,” Sutil was quoted as saying by the F1 official website.

Sutil made his debut with the team in 2007 helped Force India scored its first points in 2009. Last year the team finished seventh in the constructors championship and Sutil was 11th in the drivers’ standings.

“Over the past four years the team has made huge progress. When I started we were at the back of the grid and since then we have got stronger and stronger and are now achieving real results,” said Sutil

The German feels his goals matches with the team.

“We have made some good progress and I am excited to be part of the team when it takes the next step, which is hopefully to become a front running team. We have the same ambitions so it makes a lot of sense to achieve them together,” he said.

The 18th race of the season will be the inaugural Indian Grand Prix in New Delhi and Sutil is excited about competing the team’s home race.

“Have been to India several times with the team and have seen how the team and F1 are getting bigger and bigger. There is now a real fan following and they have got behind the team. Being in a Force India car for the home race is going to be very special and I hope I can do the fans and country proud,” he said.

The season start with the Bahrain Grand Prix from March 11-13.
