playSep 21, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The defending Super Bowl champions, New Orleans Saints on Monday night continued with their Season opening win against the San Francisco 49ers. Although it was not the best of defense work on display by the New Orleans Saints and not the worst of San Francisco 49ers’ play, the former went on to post a 25-23 victory over the latter after a last second 37-yard field goal by placekicker Garrett Hartley.

While from the very beginning of the Monday night game, the players of New Orleans Saints came up with some good play, it turned out to be disastrous start for the San Francisco 49ers when the snap flew over the head of quarterback Alex Smith and pushed out for a safety by David Baas. It provided an early two point lead to the New Orleans Saints. For the rest of the game until the last few minutes, it was New Orleans Saints who maintained the lead. Trailing behind by eight points, the San Francisco 49ers emerged to post a tie with just one minute 19 seconds remaining of the game. Frank Gore tied the scores with his impressive 82-yard drive followed by a two-point conversion that brought the San Francisco 49ers to a 22-22 tie with its opponent.

Although the two-point conversion was first ruled out by the referee who held that the tight-end player Vernon Davis caught the pass from Alex Smith out of his zone, it was later rectified when a video revision found Vernon Davis at right position. However, the New Orleans Saints were in no mood to lose the game and marched 51 yards to get that game winning field goal by Garrett Hartley at place.
