Grindelwald, May 3 (THAINDIAN NEWS) There has been a new speed record regarding the climb of the north face of Eiger. 27-year-old Swiss climber, Dani Arnold, scaled the challenge in 2 hours and 28 minutes. The time is almost a third of an hour short of the previous record. The previous record was held by Ueli Steck. Ueli set the record in 2008 when he scaled the 5,905-foot vertical ascent.

Dani admitted that he had fright before he started the challenge. He however said that once he got up and running, all the thoughts of fear disappeared. Dani attributed his success to mental toughness. He said he likes climbing but always do so after going through mental training which he holds higher than physical training. On the recent triumph of Eiger, Dani said he did not undergo any special training.

Dani completed the ascent on the 20th of April. To Dani, having what he calls “nerves of steel” helped him to be able to overcome the challenge. The Bernese Alps mountain stands at an astonishing 13,025 foot high.

He explained that, “I really didn’t do any special training at all. I’m a mountain guide, so I’m always out climbing, but the best way for me to prepare is mentally, not physically”.
