Netherlands make winning start against Danes
June 14th, 2010 - 8:46 pm ICT by IANSJohannesburg, June 14 (DPA) The Netherlands got off to a winning start in Group E of World Cup football with a 2-0 victory over Denmark at the Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg Monday.
A comedy own-goal gifted the Dutch the lead in the 46th minute when Simon Poulsen headed a clearance against his own defensive team-mate Daniel Agger and past Thomas Sorensen in the Danish goal.
Dirk Kuyt added a second five minutes from time when he scored from a rebound after Eljero Elia hit the post. Later Monday Japan were due to face Cameroon in Bloemfontein in the second match in Group E.
