Kathmandu, Apr 4 (ANI): The Election Commission (EC) has disqualified 280 candidates whose candidatures were not conforming to the election law and has also announced action against four violators of the election code of conduct.
The candidates were declared disqualified for their underage (below 25) applications and for some, under proportional electoral system nomination, according to EC Commissioner Nil Kantha Upreti.
And some other disqualified candidates were found to have filed nominations under more than one party, and some did not furnish their citizenship papers before the EC by the deadline, he said.
EC has found some violators among who, Joshi was found carrying weapons during electioneering, while Shrestha and Tamang have been accused of attacking CPN-UML candidate Dev Shankar Poudel and NC candidate Bal Chandra Poudel respectively. The EC has sought clarifications from Kanchha Ram Tamang who are accused of attacking Kaman Singh Lama.
Upreti said, EC has also begun taking action against those found breaching the election code of conduct. It has already sought clarifications from four candidates for obstructing the campaigning of other political parties.
Meanwhile, reviewing a previous decision, the Election Commission (EC) also announced the increase in the amount of insurance cover for all officials deputed to the different parts of the country for conducting the upcoming Constituent Assembly poll.
All the officials deployed for the election are entitled to accident insurance of Rs 1.5 million, up Rs 1 million from what was decided earlier.
“The EC has announced that any employee deployed for election purposes would be suspended and would face action as per the Election Commission Act if he/she refuses to travel to the place he/she has been deployed to,” said sources. (ANI)
