New Delhi, Feb 25 (IANS) Navdeep Singh scored a major upset on the first day of the International Tennis Federation F2 Futures event knocking off top seed Kyu-Tae of Korea. Navdeep shocked Kyu-Tae 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the second round of the $ 15,000 prize money event at Delhi Lawn Tennis Asoociation stadium here.
Karan Rastogi, wild card Vinod Sridhar, and Vivek Shokeen also cleared their first round hurdle.
Eighth seed Rastogi was in a spot of bother after losing the first set to wild card Harsh Mankad but then pulled off a 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 win to move to the second round.
Sridhar reached the second round at the expense of compatriot Vishnu Vardhan 7-6(6) 6-4 while Shokeen outplayed Aditya Madkekar 6-1, 6-4.
Guillermo Alcaide of Spain showed the doors to India’s Ashutosh Singh with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 victory.
In doubles, top seed Mustafa Ghouse and Purav Raja sailed past Hsien-En Chang and Hsien-Yin Peng 6-3, 6-3 in the first round.
Second seed Vijay Kannan and Alexey Kedryuk of Kazakhistan sweated it out against Chinese Shuang-Qiang and Wang Yu before preavailing 6-3, 7-5.
Sridhar and Vardhan combined to beat Rohan Gajjar and Madkekar 6-2, 6-2. Ranji Murugesan and Vijay Sundar got the better of S Narayanaswamy and Kamala Kannan 6-3, 6-4.
Pakistan’s Aqeel Khan and Yannick Nelord of India thrashed wild card Arjun Goutham and Kaushik Raju 6-3 6-1.
Hsin-Han Lee and Tsung-Hua Yang of Chinese Taipei won a thrilling 6-7 (4), 7-6 (4), 11-9 match against Chinese Taipei’s Tzu-Yang Lin and Hyun-Woo Nam of Korea.
Earlier in the day, Purav Raja and Kamala Kannan and Rohan Gajjar of India moved to the singles main draw as qualifiers.
