National TT: Maharashtra women stun holders PSPB to enter final
January 25th, 2012 - 11:33 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Jan 25 (IANS) Maharashtra A’s women stunned defending champions Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) in the semifinals of the Senior National and Inter-State Table Tennis Championship at the SAI sub-centre here Wednesday.
Maharashtra A defeated the formidable PSPB outfit 3-2 in an enthralling contest.
Mamta Prabhu beat India teammate Shamini Kumaresan in the deciding fifth match for a memorable victory. The fifth singles was decided in as many games.
Shamini seemed clueless on a day when PSPB teammate Mouma Das was at her best, helping the team with two wins in the last four match. But that was not to be enough as Shamini went down to Mamta 8-11, 14-12, 5-11, 11-4, 8-11 for her second loss of the match.
Maharashtra will take on North Bengal, who beat West Bengal 3-0, in Thursday’s final. After Nandita Saha beat Anandita Chakraborty 6-11, 15-13, 3-11, 12-10, 11-8, it was left to Ankita Das to consolidate as she downed Krittiwita Sinha Roy 9-11, 11-2, 11-5, 11-5 and Takema Sarkar completed the task by beating Pallavi Kundu in four games.
