VANCOUVER, CANADA (BNO NEWS) – Nanjing, China was elected Wednesday as the host city of the 2nd Summer Youth Olympic Games in 2014, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said.

The IOC held its 122nd Session in Vancouver, Canada where Nanjing received 47 votes to surpass Poznan, Poland’s 42 votes.

The 2nd Summer Youth Olympic Games is expecting around 3,600 athletes that range from 15 to 18 years old, who will be participating in 26 different sport competitions.

“We had two outstanding candidatures from two fantastic cities. Both expressed the spirit of the Youth Olympic Games and both were capable of staging the event,” said IOC President Jacques Rogge. “We are looking forward to working with Nanjing, and are confident the Youth Olympic Games in 2014 will be a success,” he added.

This year’s Youth Olympic Games will be held in Singapore between 14 and 26 August 2010, receiving participants from all 205 National Olympic Committees. An education program is planned to promote Olympic values, which will cover various topics like healthy lifestyles and the fight against doping.
