Nairobi, Aug 9 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Kenya’s Prime Minister Raila Odinga announced on Wednesday that they are preparing the country so that they can host the Olympic Games in 2024.

Odinga said that their country is planning to pitch for the 33rd Olympic games to be held in the country. If this happens, Kenya will be the first country to host the Olympics in Africa since this will be the first time that the games will be held in Africa. The International Olympics Committee is supposed to select the country that will host the 2024 Olympics in 2017.

Campaigning is supposed to start in 2015. Nairobi will not be the first city in Africa to bid for the hosting of the Olympic Games. Cape Town made an attempt in 2004 and Cairo made an attempt in 2008 but they were not selected. The Olympic venues for the 2014, 2016 and 2018 games have already been selected as Sochi, Russia, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Pyeongchang, South Korea respectively.

The venue for the 2020 Olympics will be chosen from among Tokyo, Japan, Madrid, Spain and Istanbul. The 2024 Olympic Games venues are still in the bidding process. This is a big step for Nairobi and Kenya as a whole and if successful, the event will leave a very big mark on the African continent.
