My son will bounce back: Johnson’s father
July 25th, 2009 - 8:20 pm ICT by IANSBrisbane, July 25 (IANS) Struggling Australian pacer Mitchell Johnson’s father, Kevin, has backed his son to bounce back in the ongoing Ashes series.
Former Australian cricketers have blamed Johnson’s mother Vikki Harber for his lean patch. Harber has been in the news for several weeks after an outburst criticising Mitchell’s fiancee Jessica Bratich but his father prefers to stay in the background and quietly go about his work at TNT Express in Townsville.
The couple split when Mitchell was nine and Kevin has since remarried.
“I just keep it simple and tell him to get into the Poms and wish him luck,” Kevin was quoted as saying the Courier Mail.
Kevin wants no part of any family feud - “obviously I do feel for him” - but expects Mitchell will rebound from his form problems in the third Test at Edgbaston.
“He’ll bounce back, no problems at all,” Kevin said. “The biggest problem at the moment is the six inches between his ears but once he gets that he’ll be back. He’s done it before and he can do it again. I am very proud of him. He’s been a good kid all along, never any trouble.
“He is my interest in cricket. Sometimes when I watch him on television I expect that I will just wake up one day and realise I was only dreaming. That this didn’t really happen.”
England lead the series 1-0.
