My game is better now, says Clarke
January 3rd, 2010 - 6:29 pm ICT by ANISydney, Jan 3(ANI): Australian vice-captain Michael Clarke has said that his maturity as a player has contributed to him being country’s most consistent batsman over the past two years.
“I feel like I’ve matured as a player. It’s been good to perform after being dropped a while ago now and getting that second chance to play for Australia. A lot of people don’t get that chance. I guess that’s been my focus, to be as consistent as possible,” The Daily Telegraph quoted Clarke, as saying.
“Since being dropped, my attitude and training has certainly improved. My game is better now, but I still feel there’s a long way to go with my batting,” he added.
The 28-year-old further reiterated his support for Ricky Ponting as skipper and negated suggestions that he had actively campaigned for the national captaincy.
“I can’t stress enough my absolute, 100 per cent loyalty and support for Punter (Ricky Ponting). He has been an outstanding leader, not only statistically. He leads by example. I don’t think people realise how close Punter and I are - our team-mates see it because they see how much time we spend together,” Clarke said.
“I have a lot to learn and am happy learning from one of the best. I am very proud to be working under him and will be happy to do that for years to come. Ricky has been great to me, he’s given me opportunities to captain the one-day side and if it wasn’t for his support, then I wouldn’t get that chance,” he added. (ANI)
