London, June 20 (ANI): After winning Wimbledon on a computer game at home, Andy Murray is dreaming of doing the real thing in the hope of completing a stunning fortnight for British sport.
Murray has been given a dream Wimbledon boost, as reigning champ Rafael Nadal pulled out of the tournament. World No 1 Nadal, who had been in Murray’s half of the draw, failed to recover from a knee injury.
“It could be a great few weeks. People will still enjoy it regardless of whether or not I win Wimbledon, as people get into sport and love it. In Britain, we embrace everything that goes on,” Murray said.
“I have played a lot of tennis on PlayStation 3 games. I’m not bad . . . pretty good. I’ve won all the tour events and Wimbledon a few times. Unfortunately, it’s a bit easier on a computer than winning Wimbledon for real,” The Sun quoted him, as saying.
Murray insists he never looks beyond his next game but, barring a disaster, he will at least go one further than last year and reach his first Wimbledon semi-final.
World No.8 Gilles Simon is the next highest-ranked player in Murray’s quarter.
Murray believes Federer has become a bad loser after suffering defeat in each of their past four meetings and making negative comments afterwards.
Nadal becomes the first Wimbledon champion since Goran Ivanisevic in 2002 not to defend his title. John Newcombe and Stan Smith are the only other absent champs in the open era. (ANI)
