andy murray roarAndy Murray became the first British semi finalist at Wimbledon since Tim Henman in 2002, as he beat the former world number one, Juan Carlos Ferrero. This win will mark Murray’s first Wimbledon semi final at the Roland Garros.

The 22 year old Scot defeated Fererro in straight sets 7-5 6-3 6-2. The match was a pretty one-sided affair as Fererro looked pretty much down and out through out the game. Murray who had been already tagged as the favorite prior to this game looked more confident and relaxed as opposed to Fererro. The Scot has won eleven out of the thirteen matches that he had played against Fererro the last being at the Queen’s Cup.

Murray’s last match against Stanislas Wawrinka had been played late into the night on Monday. Reports suggested that Murray could be drained out prior to this game. He was back on the grass court as he faced the Spaniard, Fererro. Murray dropped his serve just once in the game as Fererro held a 3-1 lead in the second set. After that there was no turning back for Murray as he literally vanquished the former world number one in three straight sets.

The win leads to Andy Murray’s semi final clash against America’s, Andy Roddick. Murray has beaten Roddick six times out of their eight career meets and thus remains a strong contender for the finals. If Murray advances to the final then he will be crowned as the first Brit since Bunny Austin in 1938, and if he goes on to win the finals then he will be the first one to do so since Fred Perry in 1936.
