London, Jul 1 (ANI): Andy Murray, who reached Wimbledon semi-finals and is aiming to be the first male British champ since Fred Perry in 1936, has vowed that he is ready to rock Rafa Nadal’s title hopes.
Murray beat Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-7 7-6 6-2 6-2 on Centre Court.
He now faces World No.1 Nadal on Saturday with holder title Roger Federer already out after a shock loss to Tomas Berdych.
“I’ve got to believe I can win it. It’ll be tough but I can win if I play well,” The Sun quoted Murray, as saying.
“Rafa will definitely be favourite for the match after his results here over the last few years. He didn’t get a chance to defend his title last year, but he has played three finals in a row and now he’s in the semis,” Murray said.
“He’s a tough player on any surface, but he plays really great tennis here. But psychologically I need to believe I can win. That’s the most important thing,” he said.
Murray insisted that Federer’s knock out hasn’t improved his own chances of glory.
“I don’t care whether he’s in or out. It doesn’t affect me unless I win the next round. I’m playing the No1 player in the world in the next round, so it would be a bit silly for me to look past him. It was surprising, but if Berdych plays his best he can beat the best guys.” (ANI)
