London, June 24 (ANI): Britain’s No.1 tennis player Andy Murray insists that it is unacceptable he is the only British male left in the Wimbledon draw.

The world No.3 beat a spirited Robert Kendrick in four sets - and the only other Brit left in the tournament is Elena Baltacha who won last night.

All four other home men lost in the first round. Murray said: “It’s disappointing. The depth needs to get way better. It’s unacceptable.”

“It’s not picking out any of the players in particular, because I watched some of them play - and some played well. But they aren’t at the same level as a lot of guys. They don’t play at this level too often, as they are not ranked that high, so when the tight moments come, they don’t play as well.

“But regardless of if there’s 10 Brits in or just one, I’m still going to take care of my own business and not worry about what’s going on with the other players,” The Sun quoted Murray, as saying.

Murray, who faces Latvia’s Ernests Gulbis in the second round, was given a tough test by American world No.76 Kendrick.

The Brit was two points away from losing the first set and lost the second on a tie-break before winning 7-5 6-7 6-3 6-4.

He added: “It was a tough match and I got through it. I’m not going to start worrying about reaching the final yet. I need to focus on the next match. I’ve got a very tough opponent. Gulbis has caused some upsets in the past and is a huge hitter.” (ANI)
