London, July 2 (ANI): British tennis ace Andy Murray has said that the prize money on offer at Wimbledon is not such a great attraction for him, and added that he would simply be happy if he is allowed to play for free at the prestigious Grand Slam event.
Murray was speaking ahead of his semi-final clash with world No 1 Rafa Nadal this afternoon, reports The Sun.
A win would see Murray face either Novak Djokovic or Tomas Berdych in the final with the winner picking up a record-breaking one million pound pay cheque.
But Murray, who is looking to become the first Brit since Bunny Austin in 1938 to make the final, said: “The prize money makes no difference at all. I’m sure if you told Roger Federer he could keep his six Wimbledon titles, but had to give the prize money back, he would sign up for that every time.”"If you asked all the people who’ve won Wimbledon, when they were serving for the match what were they thinking about, it’s about the history and the prestige - not the money. It’s great but it’s just so far from being the most important thing,” he added.Murray, who has lost his two Grand Slam finals at the US Open in 2008 and the Aussie Open this year, added: “It would mean a lot to reach the final.
