Roger Federer London, Sep 7 (ANI): Andy Murray’s former coach Brad Gilbert believes the British number one only has two years left to realise his Grand Slam dreams.

Murray’s chances of winning a Grand Slam title faded when he made a shock third-round exit at the US Open losing 6-7 (3/7), 7-6 (7/4), 6-3, 6-3 to Switzerland’s Stanislas Wawrinka.

The 23-year-old Scot was widely expected to win comfortably.

Gilbert told Daily Mail: “Murray appears to be dwelling on major defeats. Tennis players can have long memories and I wonder if that was a factor in Andy Murray’s US Open defeat by Stanislas Wawrinka, which left me stunned.

“Only Andy himself can know the answer to this, but I suspect his two big Grand Slam defeats this year by Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, at the Australian Open and Wimbledon respectively, may be having a lingering effect.”

Asked whether Murray will win a Grand Slam, he said that the British number one would surely win.

“The question Brits ask me more than any other is whether I think Andy will win a Slam or not. My updated answer to this is that yes, I still think he will, but I’m thinking it has to got to happen in the next couple of years,” Gilbert said.

The former coach said that Murray is putting enormous pressure on himself and the longer he goes without a major title the harder it is going to get. (ANI)
