Mumbai in control against Delhi in Ranji semi-final

Mumbai, Jan 5 (IANS) Ramesh Powar claimed five wickets as Mumbai bowled out Delhi for 211 in their first innings on the third day of the Ranji Trophy semi-final here Tuesday.
At stumps, Mumbai were 123 for four in their second innings with a lead of 412 runs. Mumbai had scored a massive 500 in the first innings.

Delhi, resuming at overnight 85 for three, lost wickets in heap with off-spinner Powar (5/47) doing the damage.

Delhi, in fact, lost their last six wickets for just 23 runs. Skipper Rajat Bhatia scored a fighting 85 off 172 balls, stroking nine fours and two sixes. Gaurav Chabra gave him company with 45 runs. But the duo were separated when Powar dismissed Bhatia, ending their 89-run partnership and from there on Delhi folded up easily.

In the second knock, Mumbai opener Sahil Kukreja (71) and Wasim Jaffer added 50 runs for the opening stand before Delhi’s left-arm spinner Vikas Mishra took three wickets to rock their innings.

Rohit Prakash Srivatsava (55), Piyush Chawla (36) and Praveen Kumar (58) provided a brief resistance but did not continue for long.

At Bangalore, Karnataka bowled out Uttar Pradesh for a meagre 208 to take a huge first innings lead of 367 runs. Karnataka pacer Abhimanyu Mithun claimed four wickets to run through the Uttar Pradesh line-up. At stumps, Karnataka were 43 for three in the second innings.
