Mumbai, April 2 (IANS) Children have been made to finish off homework early morning, dinners have already been cooked, all household chores have been hurried through — families in Mumbai are not leaving anything that might come in the way of their watching the World Cup later in the day.

Families across the city began their day early to finish off chores as early as possible.

While children were coaxed and cajoled to finish their school homework before the match, parents ensured they ran routine weekend errands way before the India-Sri Lanka final match began.

“I got my 12-year-old son to finish all his homework by last night itself. I don’t want to be running after him on the D-day,” said Ankush Marathe, a cricket fan residing in suburban Goregaon.

As for the Sawants residing in suburban Kandivli, the lady of the house is busy cooking meals for the family. “Once the match starts, it’s going to be total madness. I would not want to miss a minute of it and hence I am finishing all my chores before it starts,” said Jagruti Sawant.

For some, it’s a picnic of sorts.

“We have been invited by our family friends to enjoy the match on the big screen. Five families along with their kids will be getting together at a friend’s home in Borivli. Kids will have a separate room with a television set for themselves, just in case they prefer watching cartoons,” said Amish Nambiar, another cricket fan.

“I don’t want anything to spoil the cricket mood,” he added.

Neena Sawla, a resident of Andheri in Mumbai, said: “We will spend the entire Saturday watching the match at the big screen put up at our hotel in Panchgini. Sunday and Monday are reserved to celebrate India’s victory over Sri Lanka.”
