Mumbai close to victory against Railways (Ranji Round up)
November 26th, 2009 - 10:44 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Nov 26 (IANS) Defending Champions Mumbai were in sight of an outright victory after spinners Harmeet Singh and Iqbal Abdulla left Railways tottering at 174 for seven in the second innings on the third day of the Ranji Trophy Super League tie at Karnail Singh stadium here Thursday.
Rohit Sharma scored his sixth first-class hundred to take Mumbai to 284 that gave them a first innings lead of 97 runs.
Railways, after having bowled out for 187, faltered in their second knock as well.
Faiz Fazal (42) and Sanjib Sanyal (40) showed some resilience, but Harmeet (3-25) and Abdulla (2-55), who caused Railways’ downfall in the first innings, struck again.
The two left-arm spinners were instrumental in Mumbai’s comeback victory against Himachal Pradesh in the last tie.
At Lucknow, Delhi were looking down the barrel after being shot out for 202 in the first innings against Uttar Pradesh.
After piling up 536/7 in the first innings, Uttar Pradesh bowlers stuck to their job. Praveen Kumar (3-37), Piyush Chawla (3-41) and R.P. Singh (2-70) were the wicket-takers.
Following on, Delhi were 104/2 in the second innings with Virat Kohli (61) and Puneet Bisht (37) at the crease.
