Bayern Munich London, Jul 12 (ANI): German striker Thomas Muller, who scored five times in six games and assisted in making three, had a glorious end to the World Cup after he was declared both the Golden Boot and Young Player of the tournament.

Spain’s David Villa, Diego Forlan of Uruguay and Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder also scored five goals each. But Muller’s goals, along with three assists, saw him edge out the rest.

Mexico winger Giovani Dos Santos and Ghana midfielder Andre Ayew were the other youngsters beaten to the award by the young Bayern Munich striker who had played in only two full internationals before the finals, The Sun reports.

He started with a goal in a 4-0 thrashing of Australia. Then he broke English hearts with a double in the last 16.

Goal No 4 followed in the 4-0 demolition of Argentina and the fifth came in the 3-2 win over Uruguay on Saturday.

Forlan won the Golden Ball after being named player of the tournament. (ANI)
